Abstract
This thesis explores disability through the core four models of disability: the medical model, the rights model, the social model, and critical disability theory. Throughout the work I consider the historical evolution of each model, its fundamental principles, criticisms, and defenses, in addition to utilizing each model as a lens in a real-world example. Finally, it is acknowledged that each model is imperfect in some sense, and a way forward would utilize a diverse coalition of people with disabilities to engage in intersectional work, while viewing disability as medical, political, social, cultural, and systemic.
