Abstract
"The Fool's Journey and Other Stories" is a hybrid creative writing and research-based thesis project written by Kendall Clarke. Within, Kendall explores the power of the tarot deck as a generative tool for writers. She does so through a collection of fiction pieces that centers around the themes, structures, and images within the Rider-Waite tarot deck. This creative work is informed by and put into conversation with research on the history between literature and tarot as well as how contemporary writers utilize the tarot in their own writing practices. The collection contains 15 individual fiction pieces for a total of over 60 pages of prose writing. This collection is accompanied by a 31-page Critical Essay and Reflection containing research on tarot and literature as well as Kendall's personal reflections on her writing process, the tarot deck, and her creative inspirations. Ultimately, Kendall found the Rider-Waite tarot deck to be very generative, resulting in a diverse variety of stories.
