Abstract
The debate between reason and faith has grown to a fever pitch in recent years. My paper aims to make a contribution to this debate by suggesting a way beyond the trap of reason, by offering narrative rationality as an alternative to the epistemological terms of rationality established by reason. To do this I apply discourse analysis to a debate between Sam Harris and Andrew Sullivan with the aim of showing how narrative rationality might offer a productive response to reductive accounts of reason.
