Volume 5 (2013) Outsourcing
“Outsourcing” conjures up a constellation of interconnected terms: labor, production, transportation, displacement, consumption. We wanted to stretch our idea of this term from a form of modern-day corporate colonialism to an examination of outsourcing on a more intimate and aesthetic level. The works in this issue look at the ways in which we transport our efforts, artistic or otherwise, onto other things, places, and products. They examine how the labor of maintaining personal well- being can be outsourced to the icons we worship, the pets we keep, the futures we imagine; how we consume and displace each other in a variety of ways.Articles
